ALGIERS- Minister of Water Resources and Water Security, Karim Hosni, voiced, Tuesday in Algiers, on the facilitation of the administrative procedures related to granting licenses to drill water wells for the benefit of agricultural investors.

To this end, the Minister Hosni explained, to the press on the sidelines of a meeting on agricultural investment, that the possibilities of providing facilities to agricultural investors who request licenses to dig water wells “are currently under a multi-sector study.”

The minister added that “if it is imperative that we protect water resources, especially in areas classified as red because of drought, we can nevertheless provide licenses to dig water wells if their completion is far from the potable water supply system.”

In response to a question on the reuse of filtered water in agriculture, Hosni confirmed that his ministerial department will expand the use of this resource, pointing out that there are more than 200 wastewater purification stations.

He continued, “With regard to growing vegetables, it requires (complete) treatment of sewage water.”

Finally, he concluded by emphasizing that his ministry is working to increase the proportion of desalinated sea water, which is currently estimated at 17%, to reach 42% in the horizons of 2024 and 65% in the year 2030.”
