ALGIERS- Speaking on the occasion of National Blood Donor Day, the Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, annouced that the government has allowed Algerians to be injected with a third dose of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine.

“The duration of immunity from vaccines is unknown. That’s why many countries have authorized the third dose, ”the Minister explained.

In this vein, Professor Benbouzid revealed that instructions have been given to vaccination centers nationwide to receive citizens who got their two doses at least six months ago . However, this third dose is not “mandatory”, he assured.

In addition, the Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform reiterated his appeal to Algerians to get vaccinated against the Coronavirus.

In his argument, he said that the decline in the epidemic in the country is a boon for citizens to get vaccinated. “We won a battle but not the war,” he warned.

Faced with the lack of enthusiasm among Algerians, the minister announced new measures to relaunch the campaign, such as the installation of vaccination points at the Algiers metro or tramways. “We were counting on the vaccination of 70% of the categories concerned, but the citizens were negligent,” he regretted.
